Guidelines for Submitting Extended Abstracts for SLERC


Word limit for the extended abstracts should be between 1000 - 1500 words (Excluding list of references). Extended abstracts over 1500 words will be rejected by the conference committee without notifying the author.

At least one author of a research paper must be registered and attend the conference in order to publish the extended abstracts in the conference proceedings. All extended abstracts should be professionally edited for English language before submission. SLERC 2020 encourages student submissions. PhD students may submit as a single author. All the other students must be co-authored with a department/faculty advisor.

The extended abstract must contain the following sections. Title, Introduction/Background, Research Problem, Objective/s, Methodology, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Keywords and References.

The conference committee reserves the right to submit extended abstracts to plagiarism detecting software or to take any other steps appropriate to identify plagiarism. The acceptable range of Similarity Index is up to 20 percent. Extended abstract submissions without these specifications will be cancelled without notifying the author. All authors of the extended abstracts accepted for presentation are invited to submit a full paper and will be considered publishing in the Sri Lanka Journal of Economic Research (SLJER).

General Guidelines



Times New Roman

a. Title - 14 point, all caps, centered, bold

b. Author/s name/s and affiliation/s  - 12 point, centered bold, use surname before initials - e.g. (Jayakody, J. K. A. S.).

c. Sub-headings – 12 point bold, not to be numbered

d. Body text – 12 point, justified

Tables and Figures


Not more than 2 tables or figures

All the tables and figures should be centered and numbered. Figure headers should be placed under the figure (see Figure 1 for an example) and the table header should be placed at the top (see Table 1 for an example).

References (if any) of the tables and figures should be presented right under the tables and figures in the form of author’s surname and year of publication



Formulae should be typewritten (use, e.g., Microsoft Equation Editor). Subscripts and superscripts should be clear.  Give the meaning of all symbols immediately after the equation in which they are first used. Equations should be numbered sequentially at the right-hand side in parentheses.


Page setting

2.5 cm wide from the right, left, top and bottom. Content should be justified; Pages should not be numbered.


Paper Size



3-5 keywords, arrange in alphabetical order, separate each keyword using semicolon (;), mention keywords at the end of the abstract and before the references, font size 10



References should be listed in alphabetical order and presented in a format according to the APA style. Number of references should be limit to eight (8), font size 10, See for more details.
