Submission of Extended Abstracts: SLERC 2019

1. Guidelines:

The word limit for the extended abstracts should be between 1000 - 1500 words (Excluding list of references). Abstracts over 1500 words will be rejected by the conference committee without notifying the author.

At least one author of a presentation must register and attend the conference in order to publish abstracts in the conference proceedings. All abstracts should be professionally edited for English language.

SLERC 2019 encourages student submissions. PhD students may submit as a single author. All the other students must be co-authored with a department/faculty advisor.

The conference committee reserves the right to submit extended abstracts to plagiarism detecting software or to take any other steps appropriate to identify plagiarism. The acceptable range of Similarity Index is up to 20 percent.

Abstract submissions without these specifications will be cancelled without notifying the author.

The extended abstract must contain the following sections.

  • Title
  • Introduction/Background
  • Research Problem
  • Objective/s
  • Methodology
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Keywords
  • References

2. Information needed at the submission of abstracts: 

  1. Submission Title;
  2. Student (Yes or No);
  3. Author’s Name(s), Affiliated Organization(s), & E-mail(s);
  4. Topic Area or Track;
  5. Keywords (3 –5 words);

3. Formatting:

Language English
Font Times New Roman
Font point: a. Title - Times New Roman 14 point bold.

b. Author/s name, Title, Institute (University), email – font size (Times New Roman 12 point light- normal) Use surname before first name and title at the end – e.g. (Jayakody, J. K. A. S.).

c. Sub-heading – 12 point bold; do not use numeric before the sub-headings.

d. Body text - 12 point light – normal

Capitalization: Title and subtitle – use the capitalize each word
Line Spacing: 1.15
Page Setting (margins):

2.5 cm wide from the right, left, top and bottom

Content should be justified Pages should not be numbered

Paper Size: A4

3-5 keywords

Arrange in alphabetical order

Separate each keyword using semicolon (;)

mention keywords at the end of the abstract and before the references

Tables & Figures

Not more than two figures or tables

All the tables and figures should be centered and numbered. Figure headers should be placed under the figure (see Figure 1 for an example) and the table header should be placed at the top (see Table 1 for an example).

References (if any) of the tables and figures should be presented right under the tables and figures in the form of author’s surname and year of publication




Formulae should be typewritten (use, e.g., Microsoft Equation Editor). Subscripts and superscripts should be clear.

Give the meaning of all symbols immediately after the equation in which they are first used. Equations should be numbered sequentially at the right-hand side in parentheses
